Students in fifth through eighth grades attend Clark Middle School (St. John-Rose Gate), Grimmer Middle School (Schererville) or Kahler Middle School (Dyer), with those living south of 101st Street (Hanover Township) attending Hanover Central Middle School (Cedar Lake-sixth through eighth grades) (All Gates except Magnolia and Rose).

In addition, pre-K through eighth grade students can also attend St. John the Evangelist Catholic School or Crown Point Christian School (located in The Gates of St. John), both of which have campuses in St. John.
November 2012, voters in the tri-town areas of St. John Township (St. John, Dyer and Schererville) approved a $160 million construction referendum to pay for renovations at Lake Central High School and reconstruction at Protsman Elementary in Dyer. Both buildings have been using portable classrooms to accommodate their current student populations.
To date, construction crews have already transformed Lake Central’s former cinder and sod track area into the site where a new three-story classroom building will be located. When complete next fall, this building will help ease congestion as the main high school building which was built in the 1960s is renovated and expanded into a state-of-the-art learning institution.
